American Idol - Life Changing Moment - Constantine Maroulis

Before David Cook and Chris Daughtry, it was Constantine Maroulis and Bo Bice that changed the American Idol landscape forever. Those two brought some "rockers" into the American Idol competition for the first time. Constantine's early exit sent season 4 into a tailspin for me. Perhaps this was more of a life changing moment for ME...haha! But, hey, its my blog!

If you're on the fence about whether music from American Idol alumnus Constantine Maroulis is worth your time, consulting the cover art could help. Those who swooned over his dark good looks in 2005 will be swayed again instantly. And in the end, that won't be a bad thing. Constantine, the former contestant's first solo album (fans will note that Pray for the Soul of Betty, a 2005 release, was the work of a band to which Constantine contributed vocals prior to his TV turn) rocks hard, rejects infantile songwriting, and leaves no room for duds--each of its 12 tracks surprises with a maturity you wouldn't necessarily expect from a guy who got his big break on TV. The opening piano plinks of "Girl Like You" give way to a Santana-esque romp, "Everybody Loves" brings out the Freddy Mercury in Maroulis' likable if not overly pliant voice, and "Sister, Sister"--one of a few numbers co-written by Maroulis--steals hearts with a sharp turn away from the predictable; here's a song about sibling love from an artist who some would expect to focus on lusty joints. Constantine's producers play it straight and don't get overly fancy, but that's not to say the disc is without flourishes. Constantine Maroulis - Music Video - Girl Like You

Season 4 of American Idol is the only season my favorite (Constantine) didn't make it to the finals. Even though I continued to watch, I lost interest in the outcome altogether. So, naturally I have been following his post-idol career. Constantine recently landed a role on the soap opera The Bold and The Beautiful, playing "Constantine", a record producer.

I have been watching video shorts of Constantine on the Bold and the Beautiful and saw this a week ago or so. It debuted during a sequence on the show, where Constantine is playing his "new" recording for his love interest "Phoebe". She's the girl in the video.




Constantine's debut album, which includes this track, is due out in August.

Constantine joining The Bold And The Beautiful

According to TV Guide, Constantine Maroulis will be joining the cast of the soap "The Bold And The Beautiful" for a 13 week stint. Now I don't watch the show but TV Guide reports:

"We're going to blur reality à la 'Entourage' and have Constantine play a fictional version of himself," "B&B" Executive Producer BRAD BELL told the magazine. Look for Maroulis to be involved in the Phoebe/Rick storyline -- he will initially join the soap as a possible music producer for Phoebe.

This is certainly a larger audience for Constantine than Broadway I would think. I will definately have to record an episode or two to see him in action!
