Friday Night Lights - "Tami Knows Best"

Another stellar episode of Friday Night Lights! I am starting to figure out what everyone's been up to, and am glad to have them back in my life. More than any other show on TV I care about these characters and feel like they are all someone I know, or have know in my life.

Anyway, on to the recap. Tami is interviewed by a local reporter regarding the diversion of the JumboTron money to academics. The reporter asks whether this issue makes things difficult at home, Tami responds "at the end of the day, we both respect each other". Well, the story doesn't go well. The Taylors pretty much take it in stride. This isn't even a hurdle, and Eric supports Tami, well, non-verbally. You know what I'm talking about right? Tami is bitching, and Eric is nodding his head, but not really listening. They are the perfect couple right??

Let's see...what else? Buddy is not happy that Lyla is dating Riggins. "He is white trash and will drag you down". To which Lyla resonds "Maybe he just needs someone to believe in him?" Tim also recieved a letter of interest from Oklahoma and he seems to have zero interest in college, even if it means playing football. It's OK Tim, we would keep you around for another year at Dillon High ... am I right?

Meanwhile Tyra is running for Student Council President, as part of Tami's plan to get her into college. Unfortunately no one is taking Tyra seriously. Tyra reverts to using promises to the student body that they won't have Prom in the Gym so that everyone will have a chance to get laid. Tyra ends up winning, but when she goes to share the good news with Tami, she encounters Tami pretty pissed off at her tactics. Tyra seems to shoot herself in the foot sometimes. But, with Tami and Landry on her side I have no doubt she will make it.

Matt and Julie run into each other a few times this episode, both seem to be feeling the other out. Possibly a reconciliation? Hmmm...

Poor poor Matt. His grandmother has decided she doesn't want to take her medication because it dries her skin out. The doctor won't give Matt the medicine because he's only 17, but warns that his grandmother's dimentia is getting worse. An attorney tells Matt if he emancipates himself from his parents he can legally take care of his grandmother. Therefore, we finally meet the woman (pictured above) who gave birth to Matt. Matt travels to visit his mother because he needs the emancipation papers signed and doesn't want to try and track down his father in Iraq.

In some good news, Eric gets Smash a try out with Texas A&M in two weeks. However, he is still concerned about his progress. Coach Taylor gets the whole team to dress and run some plays with Smash. Playing again fully dressed with the team invigorates Smash and he shouts "Smash is back!"

Overall, a great start to the new season! I can't wait for next Friday!
