David Archuleta's Dad Loses 'American Idol' Backstage Pass

I really HATE reporting this, but its news, BIG NEWS. Like David doesn't feel enough pressure already...??

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Backstage meddling has caught up "American Idol" favorite David Archuleta's dad, who's been banned from rehearsals, a person working for the TV talent contest said Friday.

Jeff Archuleta was told this week by producers that he can no longer join 17-year-old son as David as he prepares for the show, the person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. The person wasn't authorized to comment publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The show's action was first reported Friday by the online Web site TMZ.

David Archuleta of Murray, Utah, is one of three contestants left as the top-rated Fox show heads toward the Jan. 20-21 finale. The fresh-faced teenager with the big voice has consistently been deemed a front-runner by the judges and been a consistent fan favorite.

Jeff Archuleta's intense backstage involvement had become a source of concern for the series, the person connected with "American Idol" said — but it was a lyric change on Tuesday's show that pushed producers to act.

Despite a warning, Jeff Archuleta insisted on altering "Stand by Me," one of two songs his son sang on the show Tuesday. By adding a verse from Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls," the father incurred additional costs for "American Idol," the person said.

American Idol - Top 3 - Song Spoilers

Cute huh? But, guess what, it's also D-day in Kansas City and S-day in Tampa Bay!

As the Idols visit their home towns we will learn at least a little bit about their song choices for next week. They will each sing three songs, one chosen by themselves, one by Clive Davis, and one by the judges. The judges choice is generally revealed during their hometown visits. Here is what we know so far:


- Simon Cowell has chosen "First Time Ever I saw Your Face", by Roberta Flack for David Cook.

- David Cook has chosen as his selection: "The World I Know", by Collective Soul.

Simon: I thought it was pleasant; one of your weakest performances; a little forgettable; having said that, it will absolutely get you through to next week.
Me: I liked it, ALW had two pieces of advice - open your eyes and open your eyes.

Randy: Check it out, I was a little worried, you picked one of the toughest ones; I always say, if you can sing, you can sing anything! and you can sing anything! that was the bomb!
Paula: you made mariah very proud!
Simon: I would have bet on you picking that song; very, very good; you set the benchmark. i actually think the boys wil ldo better than the girls because of the comparison factor.
Me: I liked hearing more of David's range. Liked the higher notes, they were very clean!

Randy: That was your hottest moment the whole season!
Paula: You know what, fantastic.
Simon: Best song choice of the night so far. Not going to say it was your best vocal. I am nit picking here because you are going to SAIL through to the next round!
Me: Playing the big grand piano! Really a heartfelt performance for me.

Randy: Guess what baby, David Archuleta is back and I stand corrected, that is the best performance right there!
Paula: Beautiful aura about you!
Simon: David I had issues with your song last week, this week, absolutely on the money!
Me: Beautiful song. Beautifully sung! Davids game is back!
