American Idol - Top 10 - David Cook - "Billie Jean"

1982

Randy: Yo; I think you are the most original and most bold contestant we have ever had
Paula: Blown away; I gotta tell you how smart, brave you are to stretch the boundaries
Simon: That was BRAVE; It could have been insane or amazing; and I gotta tell you it was amazing.
Me: Not a bad job for turning a Michael Jackson song into a rock song!

Update: David Cook is beating David Archuleta by over 15 points on Dial Idol!

I have never...never ever ever..been so moved by a reality show performance in my life! I don't even like rock but David Cook did something tonight that will remain with me...my entire life! You rock David! It's like he transcended time and place...right there on the american idol stage!

Simon was right on, that was AMAZING! Who would have thunk it, Billie Jean a rock song. LOL

Chris Cornell did it first. They may have mentioned his name in the intro, but none of the judges acknowledged it. David Cook did a great job, but it wasn't original -- it was a carbon copy of Cornell.

I've heard the Chris Cornell version....this was better. Way better.

David Cook took all the credit when he shouldn't have. He has Chris Cornell (Audioslave/Soundgarden) to thank for the arrangement. Now everyone including Paula thinks he's so 'smart' for it.

They mentioned Chris Cornell in the intro. Regardless David did a great job...way better than anyone else.

He gave the credit to Cornell...just as he gave the credit for Day Tripper to Whitesnake. He's not ripping anyone off, he's just improving on recording artists songs. He's got talent, no one can deny it.

I am not an Idol fan, but I happened to watch it earlier tonight, and that performance alone has gotten me hooked! That was brilliant!

Its the fault of the judges for not realizing the arrangement was not 'original' but David could have mentioned it again when he was receiving all the praise for being daring and smart. It would have avoided the 'forthecoming' press field day tomorrow when everyone else who didn't hear Ryan credit Chris Cornell in the intro.

No matter, they are all doing covers, or covers of covers, of songs. David nailed this big time and he, along with David A, have the best vocals of this years bunch.
