American Idol - San Diego - Auditions - Update

Live blogging of anything interesting!

I will update after the show with full update and videos!

We have a sighting I think...Michael Lee Johns (Paula called him Michael Lee, the screen flashed Michael Johns) from Australia sang an Otis Reading song, "I've Been Loving You Too Long". Nice looking young man, Simon called him a "soulful white boy":

David Archuleta coming up! Carly Hennessy coming up too!

David Archuleta was really likable! Apparently a couple of years ago he developed a paralyzed vocal chord, and had trouble even talking for a pretty long time. He considered surgery, but was afraid he'd never be able to sing again. Now he's back and ready to go! He sang "Waiting on the World to Change". He actually forgot a word or two in the beginning. It's refreshing to hear something different in these audtions!:

Carly Hennessy next...Carly Smithson now I guess? Smithson must be her married name? She came with her husband who owns a tattoo parlor, hence covered with tattoos. Carly sang "I'm Every Woman". Was I impressed with the "Irish Girl"? Not really. At least not to the extent that she is "the best they've ever had". That label isn't her fault though, and she was likable and really wants this. It could also have been her song choice. She gets another chance from me:

Some others we saw go through to Hollywood (I could be butchering their names, I'll update them)

Perrie Cataldo sang a Boyz2Men song. Perrie is a single father who lost his wife a few years ago, and had to grow up fast. I'm not crazy about his song choice (I'm not really a fan of any boy band songs) but he had a nice tone to his voice, and powerful.:

Samantha Musa sang "Till You Come Back To Me" by Aretha Franklin. I love that song. Samantha and her sister LOVE Simon. Her sister worked her way into the audition room to sit with Simon. This had gimmick written all over it, but she had a really nice voice!:

Tetiana Ostapowych sang "Someone to Watch Over Me". Other than the fact that she would have to change her name, she did a good job. I am really more a fan of singers with some "grit" or "character" than "pure" vocal singers. She had some "grit".:

I didn't really see any bad auditions worth posting in San Diego.

30 lucky contestants received a golden ticket to Hollywood in San Diego!

On to Charleston...
